Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens: A Photographer's Prime Choice

Overview:

Offering an opportunity to capture images with a wide-open aperture at an impressive f/1.4 brightness, the Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens is a compact, lightweight, and excellent image quality lens designed for use with APS-C-format Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Leica L, Micro Four Thirds, Nikon Z, and Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. This 56mm lens stands out with its impressive maximum aperture of f/1.4 making it ideal for challenging lighting situations. An optical design utilizes two aspherical elements and one SLD element, effectively minimizing spherical and chromatic aberrations to deliver exceptional sharpness and clarity in images.

While retaining the compact, lightweight, and outstanding image quality concepts of the Contemporary line, this Sigma 56mm lens incorporates Sigma's advanced technology to deliver the desired level of bokeh and impressive brightness expected from f/1.4 lenses even in the mid-tele range. And to enhance contrast and color accuracy when shooting in bright lighting situations, a specialized super multilayer coating has been utilized to minimize flare and ghosting. The first of the series is the standard Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens, the second is the wide-angle Sigma 16mm 1.4 lens, and the third addition is this smallest mid-tele lens in its class - completing the large aperture series comprised of portable wide-angle, standard, and telephoto lenses.

More details:

  • The only three F1.4 AF lens systems for APS-C Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras - The Sigma 56mm 1.4 lens benefits from an open aperture of F1.4 to achieve a sufficient amount of bokeh and admirable brightness even with APS-C size cameras which tend to have smaller bokeh effects compared to 35mm full-size systems. Its compact and lightweight body is perfect for daily use, capable of capturing various scenes ranging from portraits to snapshots, as well as night view.
  • Designed to minimize flare and ghosting - SIGMA’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high-contrast images even in backlit conditions. The included lens hood can be attached to block out extraneous light, which can have a negative effect on rendering performance.
  • Smooth AF ideal for video shooting - The combination of optical design for video AF and the use of the stepping motor enables smooth and quiet autofocus. This lens is also compatible with the Sony E-mount Fast Hybrid AF, achieving precise AF tracking. By using the face recognition or eye AF functions of cameras, the focus will continuously be on the face or the eye even if the subject moves during the shoot.
  • Rounded diaphragm - The 9-blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur in the out-of-focus areas of the image.
  • High-precision, rugged brass bayonet mount - The brass mount combines high precision with rugged construction. Its treated surfaces and enhanced strength contribute to the exceptional durability of the lens.
  • Mount with Dust and Splash Resistant Structure - The mount features a special sealing to make the Sigma 56mm f1 4 lens an excellent choice in a wide variety of conditions.
  • Three F1.4 AF lens system for APS-C Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras - The lens benefits from an open aperture of F1.4 to achieve a sufficient amount of bokeh and admirable brightness even with APS-C size cameras which tend to have smaller bokeh effects compared to 35mm full-size systems.
